    Albemarle is the county seat of Stanly County, North Carolina.Albemarle is located in the Floyd Church Formation of the Carolina Slate Belt.Albemarle''s Parks and Recreation Department was established in 1963. It currently operates and administers five parks within the city''s limits, as well as a soccer complex and a ceramics facility. The newest facility under the Department''s purview is City Lake, a 75 acre park on a 100-acre (0.40 km2) lake that was opened in 2003, joining Rock Creek Park, Chuck Morehead Memorial Park, Roosevelt Ingram Memorial Park and Don Montgomery Memorial Park.

Located northeast of Albemarle, Badin Lake is located in the Uwharrie National Forest and offers visitors a number of recreational activities.
The Morrow Mountain State Park offers beautiful scenery, great outdoor activities, and some historic sites for added interest. Some of the highlights of the park include Lake Tillery and the Pee Dee River the, the Dr. Francis Kron homestead from the 1870s. The site was reconstructed in the 1960s.Morrow Mountain State Park is also well known for its fishing, boating, and day use areas.
The Stanly County Museum in Albemarle features changing exhibits on the history of Stanly County and the founding of Albemarle. The collection includes historical photographs, documents and artifacts.The Stanly County Museum is located in two historic buildings, the Freeman-Marks House (1847) and the Snuggs House (1852), along with the Museum Visitors Center which contains the Heritage Gallery.
