    Galena is the largest city in, and county seat of, Jo Daviess County, Illinois. The city is a popular tourist destination known for its history, historical architecture, as well as its ski and golf resorts.Eighty-five percent of the structures in Galena are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.The Old Market House State Historic Site, built in 1845, is a museum of local social history.

This three and a half acre garden is situated on natural limestone outcroppings.It features hostas, viburnums,conifers, grasses,daylilies, annuals,and perennials.Also offered are water features,such as a small mine replica, and a sunken garden, in the ruins of one of the first African American churches in Illinois.
This home was presented to General U.S. Grant upon his return to Galena in 1865.The house has been restored to its post-Civil War,and Grant presidency elegance.
