Kickapoo State Park has a wealth of recreational activities, from canoeing and fishing to hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. The 2,842-acre park contains several lakes and ponds, and the Middle Fork of the Vermilion River, Illinois''s only National Scenic River, runs through it.
The museum features a collection of railroadiana material from various railroads in the area. Those featured include the C&EI, Wabash, Illinois Terminal and NYC. The operator’s bay has been restored with operating telegraph keys and sounders. Dwarf signals of several styles light the agent’s room. The collection includes many laterns, the bass drum from the C&EI “Flyer Band” of the 1920’s and a four foot high replica of the front end of a C&EI F-unit from the 1949 Chicago Railroad Fair.
Built in 1855, Vermilion County Museum exhibits natural history, photography, and industry displays. The balcony of the home is where Abraham Lincoln spoke when running for U.S. Senate. A herb garden is located on the grounds.
