Owned and operated by the Dauphin County Parks and Recreation Department,Fort Hunter Mansion and Park features spectacular views of the Susquehanna River and Blue Mountains.Built by Captain Archibald McAlister,an officer under General George Washington during the Revolutionary Army,the restored French-style Fort Hunter Mansion is open for professionally guided tours.Nine structures of this 19th century plantation complex are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The house is now a museum of sorts complete with much of the original furnishings.
The only museum in the United States to offer insight of the Civil War through equally balanced presentations,the National Civil War Museum features more than 24,000 relevant artifacts, documents, manuscripts and photographs from 1850 to 1876.
Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts includes Harsco Science Center,Select Medical IMAX Theater and Sunoco Performance Theater.Harsco Science Center offers three floors of more than 250 hands-on galleries and world-class traveling exhibits. Grammy-nominated artists,nationally touring productions and more can be enjoyed at Sunoco Performance Theater.
