    Santa Barbara is a city in Santa Barbara County, California, United States.Its beautiful beaches and sheltered waters offer a great weather for swimming, boating and sunbathing.The city of Santa Barbara itself is known for its unique Spanish-Mediterranean buildings that characterize a pleasant downtown. The sea of red tile roofs set the city apart from many of its neighbors. Palm trees and more exotic plants line the streets of what is often called the American Riviera.The outskirts and smaller nearby communities, such as Ojai to the east, are home to artisans and wineries, producing some of the finest visual and culinary arts in the region.

One of the most significant historical buildings in Santa Barbara, this historic place was the last of four military fortresses built by the Spanish. It is home for many events throughout the year.
Designed by eccentric Ganna Walska, a Polish opera singer who accumulated wealth (in part) thanks to her six marriages, this estate garden is the product of decades of effort and attention. Its fantastical vignettes feature a wealth of unusual plants, including cycads, which were present in the era of the dinosaur. Other prominent gardens are devoted to lotuses, ferns, succulents, bromeliads, aloes, and topiaries. Orchards, water gardens, Japanese gardens, and a garden populated by blue plants can also be found.
One of the most beautiful small museums in the United States, this museum presents exhibits on the region''s history, geology, natural wildlife, marine life, and the culture of the Chumash Indians. Highlights include a 72 foot blue whale skeleton, the region''s only public planetarium and observatory, and a science gift shop.
One of the most beautiful missions in the state, this was the tenth of 21 Franciscan missions in California and it offers real historical insight. It continues to be a focal point for cultural and religious activity and many events are held here throughout the year.
This large zoo contains over 700 exotic and domestic animals, an enclosed carousel, and two C.P. Huntington trains. It is also is home to the Santa Barbara Zoological Gardens.
