Miri is a city in northern Sarawak, Malaysia, on the island of Borneo.Miri is lately known for its exotic coral reefs as well.The city''s other major industries include processed timber, oil palm production, and tourism. Canada Hill, on the low ridge behind the town centre, is the site of Malaysia`s first oil well, the Grand Old Lady. Bored in 1910, the well produced around seven barrels a day until it was abandoned in 1972. The hill is a popular exercise spot with a handful of refreshment kiosks, and it`s worth walking up here at sunset just for the views across Miri to the South China Sea. The new Petroleum Museum on the hill has a few interesting displays on the source of the city`s wealth.
Gunung Mulu National Park near Miri, Sarawak, Malaysian Borneo, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that encompasses incredible caves.Park park is famous for its caves.
Niah Caves is located within the district of Miri in Sarawak, Malaysia. Part of Niah National Park, the main cave, Niah Great Cave, is located in Gunung Subis and is made up of several voluminous, high-ceilinged chambers. The Great Cave lies in a large limestone block, about a kilometer long in general north to south direction and about half a kilometer wide.The cave is an important prehistorical site where human remains dating to 40,000 years have been found.
