Faridabad gets its name from the founder and the treasurer of the Mughal emperor Jehangir, Sheikh Farid. He Built a fort and a mosque in this town. The town developed into a refugee centre when after partition a large number of refugees from Pakistan came to India and settled here. Today it is one of the most upcoming and revenue generating towns of Haryana.

Situated on the south eastern tip of the small state of Haryana, bordering the capital, Delhi, Faridabad has been an important town of Haryana.
The Badhakal lake gets its name form the Persian word Bedakhal meaning, without any interference. This huge lake is placed in such way that it was hard to locate it earlier, hence the name attached to it. The lake nearly 20 kms from the town of Faridabad, is a picturesque picnic spot and one of the favourite getaways of Delhites. Nearby is another lake known as the peacock lake which too is a beautiful spot. Both the lakes offer a splendid view and a facilities for boating etc.
The tomb, of the Sufi Saint, Baba Farid is a revered spot for the religious. Any believe that the town of Faridabad has been named after the Sufi saint.
The Suraj Kund meaning the Sun lake is a beautiful complex built by the Rajput king Surajpal Tomar. The Lake is surrounded by rock cut steps and represents the rising Sun. The pool of fresh water is said to have healing properties.\r\nEvery year there is a fair held in the complex of Suraj Kund. This annual event is handicrafts fair where craftsmen from all over India come to participate.
