  • Description

    Kakinada is mainly a port and a fishing harbour, which has very old origins. The name of this town is said that have been derived from "Cocanada" - a name given by the early Dutch merchants who arrived here. Old buildings, which have the flavour of the Dutch architecture over here, stand the testimony to the Dutch influence here ages ago.

    Situated on the Koringa Bay, Kakinada is the headquarters of the East Godavari district.
Bhavanarayanaswami TempleThis Temple, in Sarpavaram village, is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The architecture of this temple is a perfect and harmonious blend of the Chalukyan and Chola styles.
AnnavaramAnnavaram is an important pilgrim centre. The famous Sri Vira Venkata Satyanarayanaswamy Temple is on sacred Ratnagiri Hill. The main temple resembles a chariot with four wheels. The unique attraction here is the four metre high representation of the Hindu Trinity. In the temple precincts is a sundial, which shows Indian Standard Time. The annual temple festival is in May.
Coringa SantuaryThis 235 Sq Km sanctuary was established in 1978, in the Godavari delt a. Otters, fishing cats, the estuarine crocodile and many water birds can be found here. \r\nSeason: November - March\r\nDistance from Kakinada: 20 Km\r\n
DraksharamaThe Bhimesvara Temple here has a unique sphatika (white) lingam and many inscriptions. Bhimeswami's Kalyanam is celebrated for five days during January-February every year.
Papikonda SanctuaryEstablished in 1978, along the steep slopes of the Papikonda range. Animals found here include the tiger, Leopard, Chousingha and wolf. Many waterbirds are also to be seen.\r\n Season: November - June\r\n
RajahmundrySituated on the left bank of the Godavari. This town is famous for the 2,743 metre long bridge by which it is reached. It is an important centre of commerce and communication.
