The place is pilgrim hot spot as well as a unique natural heritage area. Apart from its legendary reputation in Hindu mythologicals, the place enjoys a unique setting as it is located at the meeting point of satpuras and Vindhyas with Maikal Hills being its fulcrum. It is this place where Rivers Narmada, Son and Johila emerge. Amarkantak is considered to be a gateway to heaven as whosoever dies here is guaranteed a place in heaven.
